Hi. I just received my new Studiospares catalogue today and saw this
:-http://www.studiospares.com/pd_348000_STU%20MONO%20VALVE%20MIC%20PREAMP.htm
It looks like a new valve preamp that uses a proper valve circuit and not the gimmick valve thing! It also costs around £75! Looks very interesting and might try this one out!? |

Tech art, man!
That's one hell of a conversation piece.
IIRC, these (or something similar) have been around for quite a while.
Never heard it.
Looks neat, though. |

Yeah I've been considering getting a tube preamp to compliment my M-Audio Tampa and DMP3. I was thinking about getting the Electro Harmonix 12AY7 but this looks more appealing! |

This unit is apparently manufactured by the Soundking Group, a company based in China. It's intriguing to me why the StudioSpares people seem to have [crudely] edited out the company's logo in their picture.
A quote from the Soundking website: "Soundking has taken A-OK honor in the world." |

Save your money and buy a simple but higher quality tube pre like the UA SOLO610 or similar.
You won't believe the difference in the tonal quality of your recordings, it makes everything fat and warm, plus it's much lower noise.
All those tube pres are hype. You're better off with a solid state quality preamp then a cheap tube one.
It's all about noise. |

Nice catch, PLS!
That is interesting.
Looking at the pic I grabbed from Dickiefunk's link you can totally see how they edited the logo - Walmart style re-branding, perhaps? |

That'd be my guess. I'd hope it's no shadier than that. |
