Hey,
So I've been asking a lot of questions recently about recording and equipment in general. Thanks to you all who have helped; this forum is amazing.
I have finally got my basic set up going and want some advice on how I can improve my recording chops starting with the kit.
Set up:
Presonus Firestudio 26X26 > Macbook Pro > Logic 8
Kit: Stu Monsma Cutom (3pc Cutom Kit 3 ply...Jazzy kit)
Cymbals: Sabian B8s (unfortunately!)
Hats: Zildjian 14" New Beats
•Overheads: Spaced Pair: Chameleon Labs TS-1
•Toms: Pacific Pro Audio LD-1s (Rack + Floor)
•Snare: SM57
•Kick: Beta 52
This was recorded in my bedroom, I realize that a HUGE part of getting a good sound is making the source sound good before you record it! This being said, my floor tom is in need of a new lug and new heads. I took the resonant head off my kick and placed the 52 off center about 6 in. inside about 2 inches below the beater. If I were to choose one aspect of the recording I was not happy with it would be the kick sound I got.
I waned to give you all a versatile sample to judge so I started with specific pieces of the kit and then I go into a couple of different grooves.
I did a quick mix of the session, but all tracks are raw as can be. No EQ, compression, reverb, nada.

Advice on how to better myself as a recording enthusiast would be appreciated!!!
Thanks |

Not bad.
I can't believe there's no LFO on that kik, that's crazy.
I could use these tracks and make some excellent recordings out of them, so can you.
Then again, you could move each mic an inch and make excellent, slightly different sounding recordings with those tracks...
I agree with you on the kik, it sound very unnatural, too much resonance.
I need to listen to this with a subwoofer... Tomorrow... |

I re-tuned the snare and toms, I got the floor tom in tune. I'll try and post a sample/song ASAP. |
