Guys,
I bought some OSI SC-175 caulk and when I got home noticed that it is their "green series". I've done as much research as possible and can't find any difference with the pro-series except that the green series is supposed to be environmentally friendly. How? I'm not sure. Has anyone used the "green series" and is it ok for studio builds?
Thanks,
Don |

Don,
I just read your post and scurried in the supply room to double check my shipment of SC-175.... it's the "regular" Pro Series OSI SC175.
I double checked the "Green Series" website, and like you about all I could readily find is this in the FAQ, at first;
| Quote: | Is there a difference in performance of green sealants and adhesives vs. conventional solvent based sealants and adhesives?
There are some limitations in the application temperatures and inclement weather conditions for green sealants and adhesives, however performance is not affected. As a matter of fact, many green adhesives are stronger and easier to use than the conventional non green adhesives available. |
I searched for technical data sheets on the Green Series and located them here.
I compared the Tech Data and MSDS sheets and they both appear to be identical.
My guess is that OSI (like many product manufacturers) are capitalizing on the green movement and marketing products that either are already "green" or are adding value to a structure by reduction of carbon footprint... e.g. the product ain't all that green, but it helps to safe energy... so yeah... it's "green" and we can charge 10-25% more because it's now carrying a green sticker.
If you don't mind me asking... how much was the green series/tube?
My .02

Thanks for checking things out Max. You're probably right that "Green" is just a buzzword right now and they are packaging the same stuff with a new label. I'm glad that the technical data matches. Oh, and I paid $3.20 per 28 oz cartridge. I got it from Moore Products . Here is their URL : www.service-partners.com/locations/loc_by_co_detail.asp?company=Moore%20Products%2C%20LLC - 19k -
I got lucky because they have a warehouse directly across the street from my day job so I didn't have to pay shipping. I only found one Moore Products location in NC. It's in Moorseville. Not sure if that's near you or not.
Thanks again, Max.
See ya,
Don |

Don,
Man... GREAT pricing! I would have figured it to have been a LOT more expensive. Actually smoked my price of $3.79 delivered from CTS!
GOOD SCORE!
Definitely gonna keep those guys in my fav list!
They're about 2 hours from me, but I do drive through there quite a bit... so it looks like I'll be stopping in for some additional savings.
I owe ya' one!
Thanx! |
