so the material i bought to use as back wall absorption is 8 feet long, but nicely doubled over in the middle. i stuck a couple thin wood dowels in between the pieces, and they actually stand up/lean against the wall pretty well....
i'm think about just covering them with fabric and leaving them leaning rather worry about trying to hang them on the wall (with the exception of the 2" rock wool i have for the 1st reflection points on the near walls, that's already hanging).
will this be less effective then if they were hung in the middle of the walls?
i guess they won't be straight in the line of the monitors, but they'll also be covering an extra corner (floor/wall).
make sense, or is this a bad idea?
thanks. |

the further away the panel is from from wall the better will it absorb mid-low frequencies. |

Hanging a 2'x4'x2" porous (fiberglass, rockwool, foam, etc) only panel six feet out from the wall isn't great.
A rule of thumb is up to twice the thickness of air behind it, although up to once the thickness of air is more typical. Walker's spreadsheet would make a nice frequency/absorption graph of the difference.
For a 'hanger' usually there's a piece of wood (plywood etc) in the middle with porous on both sides. I don't know where in the room these can be, although the pictures I've seen of people using them are usually a thin end near the walls, often angled 30 degrees to 45 degrees to the direct sound path. |
