I have the day off today. Here's what I did this morning:
a few dynamic vocal mics .. on a guitar cab. a pisspoor guitar cab and pisspoor guitar. in a pisspoor room. also i'm a pisspoor guitar player. now that you've been warned...
i have a guitar looper so i set up a loop, and started swapping mics. all were positioned nearly identically.. about 10" from the center of the cone, directly on axis.

Wow...that EV has some weird high end open-ness thing going on.
What kind of guitar/amp/cab are we talking about here? |

Is it just me (with headphones) or do all but the EV sound a bit "muddy?"
I thought the e604 was 2nd clearest (after the EV).
Not sure "clear" is the right descriptor... maybe "brighter" in the upper mids and highs would be better... |

the squire special... squire strat through a squire champ combo
the boss looper definitely degrades the signal a bit too.. |

Thanks for posting those. |

most of these mics would be better suited for close mic'ing of course.. most stage performers would keep mic closer than 10" away from their mouth. that could have something to do with it. the tone of the amp itself is a bit muddy too.
i guess this is more for "relative to each other" sort of thing. |
