hey guys, i own a big studio in nyc, i just got a new md-421 which i am using with my new SSL board. this is a clip of me hitting a tom with the md-421. let me know what you think of my sound, i think it sounds pretty sweet.

I've listen to it through my KRK V8 and it sound kind of shitty small wood sound.... sorry... try another take... |

By "big studio" I assume you mean square footage, not client list and records on the wall?
This sounds like a 57 smacking a cardboard box with another 57 running the signal back to the board.
Multiply it a couple times and you've got the opening kik sound from Iron Man (well... almost). |

When I tried that positioning, the friggin' drummer kept whopping the mic with a 2B. Besides, placing the mic that close to the center of the head won't pick up any resonance from the drum. Geez, noobies... You'd think that an SSL would have the kind of EQ that would correct that. |

To be fair, I didn't get it.
But, I didn't know that was an electric drumset and through it was just Roland skins, and bad mic placement.
However now that I know it's an electronic set, I can laugh (albeit late). |

I would have used a nice SDC in this case just to get that stick sound we all strive for.
It just goes to show that some people have more time than taste. |
