gimmie gear

So all of my gear, just about all of it anyway, belongs to my guitarist from my old band, my namesake, anyway he bought the Firepod to record the album, and then we used mostof his mic's and stands (i've acquired quite a few more than he brought so i can live without them) we did that and then its stayed at my house ever since. now the band has broken up and he wants it back so i'm scowering ebay!

so far to replace two sm57's of his im looking at a pair of Shure USA 545D.

To replace the DAW I'm either going with the Aardvark Q10 (again) or another FP10.

How are those 545D's? Same thing as 57's i'd imagine only american made and older?

A story which sucks, but happens all the friggin' time!

Sorry to hear that.

I've used the 545 on a few (very few) occasions on snare and guitar cab.

Honestly can't remember how they sound.

Anyway, good luck!

The 545 is a bit 'woolier' than a 57 . At the same time, they are going to be as different as night and day in some cases due to age and the amount of hard usage they received.

They are, however, the approximate same as far as the capsule .

Right that's what I figured, I've used a 545 pair i borrowed from my local theatre when i was younger and just using a two channel stereo tape deck, and i dont remember what they sound like though simply cuz i was 11 or 12! But i do remember they had a very nice almost scoopy sound to them but that could just be me enjoying the sound of a professional microphone over a stereo Radio Shack made "Realistic" (brand) microphone with a y-ended 1/4" plugs.

Anyway I'm getting over this and I should have new gear soon just gotta wait for my birthday on thursday then i can afford to buy the stuff!

The big 2-0!
Scared to death!

Well its a shame about the band. You guys were putting up some very good sounding tracks. It is a disease of this profession however, and one that no matter how much success you have, will make no difference when there are large differences between members of a group.

Creative differences will always kill a project no matter how long it goes.

Its funny, there's a lot of previously 'broken- up -never- to- speak- to- one -another- again' groups going out on tour with basically the same membership in tact. Perhaps age, wisdom, and a paycheck really does cure a lot of 'creative differences'.....or at least gives some a chance to dry out and get straight with the world.

Sorry to hear about the situation. Just a bit of advice you probably already know and don't want to be nagged about...Don't be in such a rush to replace the gear that you end up buying crap just so you can get up and running. Think of a free project that can occupy the next few months (writing songs? practicing?) so that you don't jump on eBay auctions that aren't really what you are looking for.
