I was wondering if anyone would be willing to lend me their ears in critiquing this song:
http://homepage.mac.com/freesignal/
I GUARANTEE it's not going to be the best mix you've ever heard. However, one thing I DO know is that I'm getting better and better with every recording and mix I do and I think that's important. Anyway, this is one of the songs I've recorded for my friend's band. We're thinking of re-recording the bass and maybe one of the guitars. There are no vocals at this time. Also, the drummer has the snare tuned up pretty high in my opinion and seems to like it that way (I've mentioned it to him before), so please consider that.
Well, I thank you. Any questions, comments, and "YOU SUCK!" messages are gladly accepted. |

Tell ya what I know about what I like to hear.
A clean recording is not that difficult to get anymore. Knowing that anyone who will work towards that clean sound can achieve it then you move back to the reason you started with.
The music!
Timing and ability are required for musical works, without them, your just collecting a digital diary.
So there is some potential for a complete musical thought in this work you present, it is an unfinished thought. Frankly I thought the tight piccolo snare was spot on for this thing. That bass....that bass is unforgivable in ability and time. Playing levels, the overall abilities, need more focus, more work, more attention to detail.
You can get the sound, we can hear that!
But the reason you guys did this is because something musical you heard made you take notice and want to do that too.
So do that! Be that something you heard, be that good! |

So, to sum it up:
The recording is not very clean and noisy?
That comment I did not understand.
The song timing is off?
This is a possibility since we didn't use a metronome. The last time I recorded a song for them, we used a metronome and it was a mess. I put it up here for review and Remy suggested that we might get better results without it and recording all at once as opposed to one instrument at a time.
The bass?
I agree.
Playing levels?
Any suggestions for what needs to be raised or lowered?
Thanks for listening and I appreciate you taking the time to critique. |
