Hi thanks for possibly helping me with this.
Here is what I am trying to do:
I have a RME Fireface 800 that is connected to my Mac via Firewire 800 and I have a MBox connected via USB. I would like to record into Pro Tools software but send the audio input through the RME and bypass the MBox. Basically I want the MBox to be a 'dongle' for Pro Tools to run.
The converters on the MBox are weak and the RME are much better for my voice overs. So here is my chain currently: Mic to Portico Mic Pre to FMR Compressor to my RME Analog channel one input then out of the RME SPIDF to the SPIDF input of the MBox...thus bypassing the MBox converters, then it goes in to the Mac through the USB of the MBox. This works but can be problematic. Can I get Pro Tools to recognize the RME in Pro Tools 'Hardware' allowing me to route the audio to simply go in via the RME's Firewire input? What about Mac's Audio MIDI Setup Utility? I tried to Aggregate the two devices together but still Pro Tools is not showing the RME.

No. PTLE is a "closed" system that will only recognize interfaces from DigiDesign and M-Audio.
S/PDIF or ADAT lightpipe are the only ways into Digidesign hardware that by-pass the ADCs. With the MBox, you are stuck with S/PDIF.
One alternative would be to use different software (Garageband even) for capturing the FireWire output from the RME, and then importing the captured files into PT for post processing. |
