Posted this earlier as a song and realized I can get a song review elsewhere....

What I really would like from this forum is the take on the "Mix and overall sound'....You can comment on the tune if you like but I need those extra sets of ears .....I would like the input of those who do this consistently....

I'm more a Singer/Songwriter and I do use other studios as I have none....I give my instructions & am involved all the way....but I always second guess myself....My area of expertise is NOT sound but more the singing & writing..

How is the overall sound on this and did "I" "get it right"...

The song is called "New York City Cowboy"

Thanks for any input

It sounds great...crisp and clear tracks. Vocals are upfront and very good too.

The distraction, for me, was that I could not establish the time signature until a few seconds before the chorus. I think I knew where it was going to land, but the instruments never gelled it for me, as a listener. Once it came together timing wise, it stayed locked in, so, right on!!!

A real nice clean recording, great work. I'd like to hear a little more work on the drums on the first one they're better on the second one although the snare could use a little more snap on it, not much though, are they real or samples? The drums need to be brought up front in "cowboy" especially the snare to drive the song and get people swaying. That's my 2 cents just take it with a grain of salt as I'm definately no expert

Thanks for the time.....Drum loops on NYC COWBOY....And a real drummer on TELL ME WHY (2nd tune)....The snap on the snare has been mentioned at least 5 times.....(sigh...)

Thanks and have a good holiday

First off, nice tune and good songwriting!

Nice cleanly recorded tracks.

Now to the stuff ya hate to hear.

I agree with the above posters that the drums need to be brought up in the mix, and the snare needs more snap or "oomph"

The kik could do with just a touch more work around 60hz-100 or so to sit it in nicely with the bass.

Also the fiddle could use a boost somewhere in the 400hz-1kz range to bring out the midrange and make it sound a tad more natural.

Other than that nice job!

FANCY PICKER

That stuff I don't hate....We can always fix a recording...

If the song isn't there I'm in trouble...........LOL

I think because it's country they mixed the drums a tad lower....It is a common crit though about the drums so it is a slight issue to be sure...

Thanks
