Hi guys basically what I am wanting to build isnt exactly a studio but more a private venue for myself and freinds with a DJ booth and so forth. So I need to keep any very loud music from escaping.
My project is going to be build from the ground up with a 2 skin brick wall and concrete foundation and a flat roof with wooden frame to accomidate a 2nd floor in the future.
The problem I am having is trying to find out what sound proofing I would need if the building is brick as I am looking to insert the sound proofing down in between the 2 skins of brick work, would this be possible? With acoustic mineral wool and would that be enough sound proofing with it being in between brick work?
If anybody has done anything similar with a recording studio which thay have built from scatch please get in touch because any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards. |

Your thinking brick doesn't have any sound isolating(proofing) properties?
Have you had your plans approved yet? |

Im not sure what your bricks looks like, but if they are anything like the stuff here in skandinavia your pretty much done.
If not i would ditch the brick and investigate in wooden frames, rockwool and double plasterwalls. |

dmann,
Not to bust your chops in a bad way, but can you be any more vague on your construction? Before anyone can respond with any kind of helpful information, a lot more detail is needed.
PLEASE read this sticky: READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST
3x7x7 is probably not going to be all that great of a room w/out it being broken up a bit... which you did say you want a DJ booth, so the dimensions may or may not be ok. If that booth is enclosed, or if you have a bathroom or some other type of room(s) in the structure you might be fine, or you might be totally wasting your time.
You might want to use the search function and look for "room ratios".
I would seriously suggest getting Rod Gervais book; "Build It Like The Pro's". While Rod's book deals primarily with recording studios, the information in it will apply to anyone attempting to build any type of room that is intended for noise isolation and music reproduction.
You should also be sure that you have your plans approved by an engineer or architect. Since you are wanting to have more than family members in the place, you may be opening up yourself to liabilities, depending upon what country you are in. (Obviously, you are not in the US.) If you were building your facility here in my locale, you would be considered a private nightclub... even if it was on your own residential property.
Which brings up the point of doing things to proper building codes and having permits and inspections. If your country/region/local authorities require them, then I seriously encourage you to follow them and have the inspections done. If you don't, there can be serious repercussions that you really don't want to endure.
Again, please read the sticky; update your profile, overview your goals including as much detail as you can, and attach some kind of drawing. (You can't directly upload drawings here, so you'll need to attach drawings that are on another site.)
