Hey All!
I’ve a favor to ask, that will hopefully be of benefit to all.
I’ve been contacted by my online music distributor, CD Baby, regarding a new web site where my music is being offered: Amie Street. The site is trying to gain exposure, and they’ve got an interesting unique proposition.
Their business model is this: They provide a $5 coupon so that listeners can download my music. It’s a win-win situation: folks get my music free, the new site gets exposure through artist’s promotional contacts (like this message), and the artist collect royalties from the song “sales” (provided via the coupon).
The album pricing starts at “free” – when there is zero downloads. As more people begin to download them, the price rises – capping at 98 cents per song – kind of like an auction – price rising on demand.
As I write this note, my second release, “Retrospectful” is still free … but my first album, “Long Days Passing Fast”, is currently rising in price. It is still less than $2 though – so if folks act quickly, both can still be had for less than the $5 coupon – making the music available free currently.
If you want to hear the music prior to proceeding to the site, please click on either of the links in my signature below. They'll pop a player w/ the album songs on it -- so you can get a sampling. Just click on the song titles on the list to play individual tunes.
It’s a neat opportunity, getting things for free -- one I thought worth sharing quickly … so my friends here can take advantage of it while it’s available.
The way to do it is this:
1) Click this link to register with the site (email is required) and get the free coupon code:FREE COUPON
2) Visit my album sites: Restrospectful or Long Days Passing Fast
3) “Purchase” the music by selecting either/both albums for download – the music will be added to your “cart”
4) Proceed to “Checkout” and insert the coupon code in the appropriate check out box
5) Collect/Download the music in high quality MP3 format for free
6) Enjoy!
7) Tell everybody you know to do the same!!!
I would suggest that folks move fairly quickly, as downloads have been hitting since yesterday, and the price of LDPF has been rising fairly quickly – though still way below the $5 coupon. Pricing will likely remain low enough for a bit … but I’m not sure how long the coupons will remain valid – so it’s likely to be a limited time offer.
So … GET ‘EM WHILE THEY’RE HOT (AND FREE)!!!!!
And as always, THANKS for your support!
Best,
Kev |

"Obvious immediate benefit to you being: The music comes at no charge. "
And in italics, nice ad.
I'll do my own thinking about what's obvious thanks.
I didn't read further.

Actually, not at all --
... but I did eliminate the line that offended you. Of course it's obvious that's the benefit.
Here's the story behind the above post/offer:
Back in the day ... when Recording.org was but a newly born twinkle from Bigtree's eyes, and dinosaurs roamed the earth, the site was under a different BBS format -- I joined and was one of the earliest supporters of the site.
I logged well over a thousand posts back then, and nearly all of the songs presented on the two albums above were originally presented w/in the pages of Recording.org at one time or another in the Song & Mix Critque forum.
I remember Kurt Foster, when he moderated this forum, very clearly -- commenting on "Sweet Marguerita" (Retrospectful) in VERY rough form, complimenting me on the style and the song, skewering me on the tracking and poor recording.
"Real Life" (LDPF) was originally presented and arrangement honed on this forum -- and so became the first of what I would call my "doesn't completely suck" recording phase of my life.
Most of the songs on both albums have appeared here. A few have not.
I grew up learning how to record on this site. Recording.org and I have a history together. The songs, the quality of their production, IS BECAUSE of this site.
But times change, and so did the BBS format.
W/in the new format, I had a hard time logging in consistently ... and this particular thread category became overwhelmed with requests for comments ... and I found other places where online collaboration was more prevalent (something I was exploring) -- and gradually I gravitated to a less frequent presence here.
I did eventually return more recently, but I had to get a new sign on ID -- as my old one continued to give me problems.
It worked, but it's also why I've only a few registered posts under this persona ... versus the thousand + I've actually logged here since the early days.
One always remembers their first love -- and so when this opportunity arose to share the music for free w/ folks who might remember the songs in their original forms as they appeared on this very stage -- I popped back to alert anyone interested ...
Obviously you're not ... and that's quite fine by me. Please feel free to ignore the offer.
I'm not asking anyone to purchase anything.
I'm telling them they can collect the downloads for free.
I thought that was obvious.
And besides, what's so wrong with helping out fellow artists?
Best,
Kev- |

Cool.
Now, I want to listen to you music so I can critique it for you free of charge.
I don't have an email address handy though. Can I use yours? |

No need.
If all you want to do is listen and critique, just click on the links on my signature (as instructed in the first post). A new player will pop and you can listen freely.
If subsequently, you wish to download the MP3s for free, just use the email that was required when you registered for this site.
Best,
Kev- |

btw ... Greener ... I really should thank you.
Your challenge of the legitimacy of my post allowed me to explain why I posted it.
It needed to be explained ... and you brought it out -- because I knew what I knew and though I knew it, nobody else would have but for your comment.
Thanks for that!

I'm glad you DID explain it.
Otherwise it looks curiously like spamming. |

I thought his explanations just proved it was spam. |

Yes. There is a back story to the original post integrally tied to Recording.org -- and I'm ironically glad Greener brought it to my attention. I don't think he shares the view, tho ...
Actually, what it sort of illustrates, is what level of quality the average home studio can put out -- garnering information and advice from Recording.org. I took no audio courses ... I learned online.
When I started here, I hadn't a clue about recording. Not a flippin' clue. I was terrible.
Yet I was driven to learn ... and this board is where I found deep reference material.
In reading the equipment reviews, I learned what kind of pre-amps and mics delivered the best bang for the buck and the appropriate applications to use them in. I researched and found the "right equipment" for the right job.
In reading the tracking/miking sections, I learned how to record acoustic/electric and vocals better -- and how to listen for the sweet spot.
From mixing, I learned the various techniques for eq'ing ... and how to blend instruments together to isolate and feature and fit all the stuff into the mix ... creating balance and depth and production interest.
From the Mix and Critique section, I took my lumps when I did it wrong and it motivated me to get better at it.
I got better at it.
The illlustration of the culmination is above -- and I've got this board, in large part, to thank for it.
I'm simply one example of what folks can achieve through listening to the good advice found readily available right here in these pages.
Best,
Kev- |

I hear the sentiment, when I listened to your tracks I had half written a critique when I abandoned it because I thought it was to esoteric. Who am I to judge, so forth.
But, now that you mention it. I had written down that I thought you had learned from your time at recording.org because the sound is very professional. But I don't like your tunes, partly because I'm not a 50 something house wife and party because I'm a pagonophobe with a beard.
Go figure. |

Music all boils down to: "Not my cup of tea." or "LOVE IT!"
... which is absolutely the way it is -- and every musician putting themselves out there at some level knows that.
I am a singer songwriter whose roots lay in the 60s and 70s singer songwriter era of rock (Billy Joel/Elton John/James Taylor/Cat Stevens etc ...) -- and this will appeal, I believe, mostly to folk who like that genre.
I TRULY do appreciate, though, that you understood the sentiment of what I expressed above AND appreciated how achieving that level of production ties directly back to here.
Best,
Kev- |
