i just bought a pair of cascade fatheads and am expecting them any day now. however, i'm not so sure that my pre amps are up to par with giving them enough gain. currently, i'm using a mackie onyx 800r and an ART Pro MPA. will these be enough? if not, can anyone suggest a pair of pre amps for the fatheads that would also serve as a good compliment to the pres i already have? thanks in advance.

If you are worried about gain you'll be fine. Just to check I swapped a Fat Head out with an SM 58 a few seconds ago through my A&H Mixwiz preamps. Very close in level. Nope. That excuse won't work. You'll just have to buy the new preamps because they sound good. |

Mackie's literature says the Onyx preamps do fine with ribbons.
From a user over at Gearslutz.com: "I've used the Onyx extensively with all types of mics and it plays well every time. Very all purpose, and pushes my R84 with no problems and sounds good." |
