2nd Project song, Bluesy tune

Been working on this song for a while but when I "redid" this one I came up with a more "creative"baseline and added some keys. Sorry I'm no outstanding bass or guitar player and this song still needs a solo guitar which is was basically written for but my phrasing skills need a lot of work.

Stuffed used: Wrote the drums with EZdrummer and just used the basic kit to record the drums (I will be using Drumkit From Hell superior on the next run at this song), used a Carvin Strat copy tuned to Eb Standard with a Hughes & Kettner Triamp MKII clean channel, double tracked pan left/right. For keys, wrote it in MIDI and using SampleTankLE for the B3 sound, chose to make it a more "spacey soundning" keys with some chorus and verb. The Bass i'm kind of worried about since its a cheap ibanez and I just DI record with it, I do use a Ampeg plugin with it. And lastly everything is in PT LE.

So I'm all ears for suggestions!

yup, EZdrummer is well worth its price, so much to work with and to write with too, comes in different packs (best one being the Nashville kit). you can just drag and drop grooves, fills etc into a midi file in PT which is the way i've been doing drums so far since I can't record any real drums in my apartment.

Wow, the drums make me feel awkward and kind of i'll. But as a drummer, and one that's learning the subtleties of a fat back beat this is a stark reminder of why I hate synths.
As for the rest, totally dig the bass, awesome feel and such a stoner groove I could go to town for hours on it.
The guitar is totally killing it for me. Sorry, the bass says it all already, you're just caning it's goodness.
The keys sound great. I love where they are in the space of the sound. Phantom of the Opera kind of moody ominous whinge, I'd prefer it a little dirtier though, to shiny and new.
Now all you need is a lead guitarist on acid to solo up the goodness.

Drugs are bad.

I'd personally pull the organ back into more of a "wash" role than a featured part ... bring out more when desired ... but keeping the same volume throughout doesn't inject the lift it could at various moments in the piece.

It is a good sound, though ... perfect actually.

I'd also bring the bass back a hair into the kick, so that they work more together -- and the guitar up ... and like above ... maybe do something more w/ it than just follow the bass around.

A howling vocal and/or solid lead melody would also improve this.

I don't mind ezdrummer at all ... it beats some guys I've played with.

As mentioned above, very cool groove ... and a great start to this piece.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will be re recording the bass and guitars after I move this month, right now at least I have something down so i wont' forget how I played the song Razz

As you can tell this song is just screaming to be soloed over which I could it done by july (I know lots of guitarists).

Drums: Next time I put this song up I will be using Drumk Kit From Hell Superior in the mix, with that I can go to each individual drum track and edit anything.

Keys: I will Automate the mix of the keys, probably volume swells in it

Bass: I'm gonna re record it because when I tracked this take I didn't really practice the bass too much and so the playing was a bit off and not "decisive" but my first recording of this song the bass was really bland and just following the guitar, so yes the bassline stays! Smile

Guitars: Hmm, I tried with a bit of dirt in it one time didn't seem to go well but will try again once I get a lead in there. Probably will play "less" guitar in the next take by just letting the chord ring out once, but as for following the bass around well that is the extent of my music writing ability sorry I can't come up with anything "trickier" than what is tracked already...

I record all my music in a small room, smaller than any apt ... just barely larger than a closet.

Where something is recorded doesn't matter ... only the sound matters -- and you tracked very cleanly.
