Hi,

The porn spam we're getting is terrible. I'm sure we're not alone either. I've had similar concerns with my family seeing porn as I innocently go through the forum each day. I'm trying to control it as best possible without effecting login's and new registrations (from our home land) from registering here.
The porn spam is being entered by real people using ip's from the USA etc. Blocking them effects us too. What can we do about this nightmare?

I tried software last year that sniffed out and blocked this sort of thing but shortly after I installed it, it blocked entire networks from accessing RO. Seems porn rings have it figured out pretty good.

Recently, I setup a random text login that stops bots from registering here. Its been very effective. The problem now, how do we stop real people doing this?

I'm starting a topic on this, pleading for help from our internet savvy members. Maybe someone has the right modifications we can do?

You could try using the Spam Words mod. One problem with that is it could affect a real post where the user happens to use a listed word. Also, the pron spammers like to disguise their words to try and bypass these type os spam filters.

Troll Mod may also be helpful but then again may not.

I'll have to ask around the office next week and see if anyone has any good ideas.

To stop the pop-up porn don't allow people to embed images into posts. It takes a cunning spammer to "rick roll" me into clicking unwanted crap.
Or maby make newbies prove they are valid contributors before letting them hotlink, embed or basically do anything except put up text. Once Admin or Mods deem them worthy, give them privileges.
Sounds kind of Nazi, but _all_ of the spam and porn I've seen on this site has come from someone who would never be deemed "a valid contributor".
Btw, asking mundane questions and provoking discussion through mild agitation is valid contribution... Don't take my fun away Razz

greener i think is onto a decent idea....it is kind of 'nazi' but also sort of "ups the level" of seriousness on the site?

Funny, I don't seem to get any porno spam? Never have gotten much except for those advertisements for the pill's to make "that certain part of a man's body bigger" or if you can't get it up? See Alice.

Maybe it's also because I don't have HTML enabled and don't frequent those kinds of sites like you do Chris?? Dirty boy! Shame on you. But then you are an audio engineer. I honestly wouldn't expect less of you. Especially for you bland Canadians. It's cold and boring up there. I know. But at least you can go south but I can't go north. I'm persona non grata in Canada.

Maybe my ISP is filtering out the porno for me? Who would think that with the name of Cox?? I think if I was getting a constant barrage of that, I wouldn't be on the Internet anymore? Maybe we should send them professional audio stuff on a regular basis?? Maybe then they would stop sending us there porno? Strangely enough, I've never seen any porno here on Recording.org? Where can I find it??? I certainly don't want to pay for it. I'd like some free advice on the common Sutra or whatever model its cold now?

Of course I'd rather have somebody do me, digitally than look at it, in an analog sense. But that's too much to ask for most recording engineers that actually know how to record things.

All Coxxed up

not email spam, there was a thread named like "lesbian ass " something or other and i believe that is what he is referring to...although the title of the thread, there was no mistaking what was IN the thread...so kind of hard to blame anyone but yourself if you click on them hehe

It works for me. If I even have an inkling that the content might be something I don't want to see, I put my right index finger in check and move on. I've never seen any porn on this site (except for RemyRad's lascivious ramblings Laughing ), because I just don't let curiosity get the better of my good judgement.

If I've ever seen those? I've never clicked on those. Maybe it's because all I have to do is drop my pants and look in the mirror? I save a lot of money that way. I also have two very good friends. Their names are Left Hand & Right Hand. A marvelous couple I go to bed with every evening. They've never let me down. And to think.... Its all-digital!

Somewhere nearby is a place I want to go hide in. Escape, escape, escape won't work!

Credit to the mods though, I haven't seen anything on this site (that would be seen in my spam folder).

Ok. I need to leave this thread, post haste.

My apologies to all who are here to share and learn about sound recording. In my light-hearted attempt to rebuke Ms Davis, I appear to have ellicited a reply that, in my moral view, borders on soft-porn.

Sorry.

If I couldn't post pictures on the forum, it wouldn't make a difference to me.

But if it has to be that way, then the pictures should be reviewed >first< before being allowed for public viewing. Reviewed by a Mod, say, bent?

Seems that personal responsibility and real time are the enemies in this area, eliminate that, and maybe the issue would drift away?
