Hello.

I'm about to buy a microphone and found 4 mics which look quite good. But I'm not sure which one to buy, so which of the following mics would you recommend:

Audio Technica AT2020 (99€)
Audio Technica AT3035 (198€)
AKG Perception 220 (189€)
Studio Projects C1 MkII (198€)

If you have any other suggestions in that price range let me know.
I'm gonna use it for rock and pop vocals, mainly my own voice, but also other male and female vocalists.

Thanks

AT3035. I own a decent mic collection, including a pair of 3035's. I use them constantly on all different sorts of sources.

for the samt price as the AT3035 you can get a Rode NT1A - i got one and use it for everything...gives off a great true sound...

see if you can preview and of them at your local store and see which one you like the best

I think you should purchase one per year, for the next four years. Go alphabetically & you can't go wrong. If this is the only microphone you'll ever own in your lifetime, I'd go with the AKG as they've been around a little longer than the other guys. I mean, you can't go wrong with the Austrians, if you do what they say.

It's not a tumor!

Thanks for your replies.

I've ordered the AT3035. There are a lot of good reviews on the internet, so I guess it will do the job.

I considered the AKG but I found only one review, which was good, but not enough to really convince me. Maybe I'll try it if I don't like the AT (30 days money back guarantee!).

I'd pick none of the above and go with a KSM27/SL.

The reason being is you'll buy one of those mics, and then 6 months to a year from now you'll be selling to buy something else. If you buy a mic like a KSM27/SL you'll never have to boot it from your mic collection because overall it is a good mic.

Thanks for your suggestion, but the KSM27SL is 100 Euro more, which is more than I wanted to spend.
I got my AT3035 a few days ago (which came bundled with a K&M mic boom stand for 209 Euro) and tried it just yesterday. I really like it. It sounds well balanced and clear and the vocal track doesn't need much or any EQing. More than suitable for my purpose.

Thanks again to all for your input!

I just bought a 3rd one! I found out on another forum that AT is discontinuing the 30 Series mics, and there's a retail music site here in the US that has them on clearance for $99 USD, I think they sell and ship overseas too:

www.soundprofessionals.com

Prost!

Thanks for the tip. But with customs and shipping it'd be the same price that I can get it here. Anyway, for $99 (which is about 64 Euro) it's a bargain!

It's the same with apple. When you buy a mac in germany (that costs $1799 in the US) you pay 1799 Euro (which would be about $2800). If you import one you must pay customs and shipping. In the end you almost pay the same...

makes me wanna move to the states! Very Happy

Woot! I'll drink a toast to your good fortune with some of that Obstler later (it's German white lightning).
