Hello,
I'm confused as to what 'rockwool' really means in these forums. As I understand, Rockwool is a brand name. Here several Rockwool products are sold: I've seen Fasrock, Rockmin, Domrock, Alfarock. The first is sold in sheets, all others in rolls. Does anybody know these products? I want to build corner bass traps in our rehearsal room. Another popular brand is Isover. Is it possible to make bass traps with soft fluffy type of glasswool, like Isover? Thanks. |

Ivan,
To create a corner bass trap out of the soft fluffy insulation, you would need to use at least 4 times the amount of insulation, or create a bass trap that was st least 4 times the size of a bass trap made from rigid mineral wool or OC 703.
The bass trapping, in simple terms, is effective only when there is enough mass in the trap to absorb the energy that is present in the corner.
Soft fluffy insulation does NOT have the mass to to do the job as it is less than 25% of mass of mineral wool.
I started a thread on this exact subject a few months ago... heck... coulda' been a coupla' years ago. |

They are all mineral wool.
Usually sheets have higher density than rolls. Sheets of higher density are used for insulation in industrial applications or specific spaces. You are not interested in high density rockwool but low density rockwool. |
