Who are you? hello.
I saw this video and I was wondering how pertinent this is in today's society?
One dick-weed in this interview says, and I paraphrase due to lack of care factor "words have impact on people". I'd like to define here quickly what impact is.
It's force over time. Or to get technical this is an explanation I really think is long winded.
"In elementary dynamics, the concept of a large force acting for a short time is used to simplify the analysis of impulsive motion of two masses undergoing collision. When the duration of impact is known, the average force of impact can be estimated from the momentum exchange between the masses. Additional information on the impact force variation is extracted in the present analysis by using a linear spring–damper contact model. The analysis relates this force variation to the average force and the coefficient of restitution between the masses. The deviation of the coefficient of restitution from unity is the effect of the internal damping in the materials and this deviation increases with damping. As the damping increases, the maximum impact force decreases initially until it reaches its minimum as the coefficient of restitution approaches 0·49. Further increase in damping results in an increase in the maximum force at an increasing rate, which becomes significantly large when the coefficient of restitution falls below 0·3."
Now, that being said, when you say some words, you vibrate some air. Would it be possible to model, for a given range of normal, the amount of impact, sound generated by various words would have apon the surface area of a human, at a given distance, for a given viscosity of air? Am I generalising enough?
Also, I've been wondering about the interaction of particles on a magnetic level. Due to the fact that all molecules only interact with each others magnetic fields there is no physical difference between the magnetic interaction of the air molecules as they vibrate inside your ears and on your skin and the magnetic interaction of say a bulldozers track and that guy in Tienanmen Square... Isn't it all just different levels of magnetic force? Aren't levels something you can set with like a fader or by putting a number in a field in pro-tools?
Seeing as I have totally rambled, feel free to comment wildly. Use this as a space to say anything. I'm sick of threads where someone with some gear give someone else without some gear some canned advice. Lets make a thread about bullshit where the bullshit is upfront.
Regards.

Greener, your theory is bollocks. It is ludicrous to suggest anything of the sort could be done simply. Taking into account all of the factors such as the size of the target personnel changing due to breathing, etc., the computing power required would increase rapidly until it becomes unfeasible.
From now on, please base your ideas in calculable fact.
Also, are you suggesting that if I shout loud enough at someones face, they would fall backwards? |

I think what this refers to is repeated passages that are spoken to the same entity/person over long periods of time. One might call it jumping all over another while someone else might call it belittling.
Either way, I'm rubber your glue... |

I just woke up... It's called breakfast. I'm skipping it to talk to you guys.
Just messing with you, I got on the wake and bake train and rolled on in here to check if anyone had any opinions.
Some do, it's cool.
Codemonkey, what theory?

It reads like a theory. I was trying to pick up on the sarcastic, "let's get off topic and random" tone. |
