Hi tubedude.

The only review I've seen so far is in Australian mag "Audio Technology' issue 19 (the current issue), where they gave a two page review of the NT4. Unfortunately they don't have a website.
I'll quote from their conclusion. If you have a fax number and would like to "personal message" me on this I'll fax you a full copy of the review early next week.

"Not only is the NT4 a worthwhile investment for studio owners, but also as a go-anywhere stereo condenser is perfect for those wanting to collect stereo samples and atmospheres. Likewise the NT4 will easily fit into the category of location recording for film and video purposes.
In short, the NT4 fills the many tasks of stereo recording with ease and style. The sound of the NT4 is open with ample air in its high frequency response. With a healthy output, good SPL handling and dynamic range, high fidelity has never been so affordable. Furthermore, the added flexibilty of on-board power takes the NT4 condenser out of the studio into the outside world. Rode could easily charge twice the price for this one, but they haven't, and for that I'm extremely gratefull."
Reviwer: Konrad Skirlis.

Kind regards Cool

I'm curious where you've found info about the NT-5 ?

I'd like to read reviews of the Rode mics that aren't from an obscure publication that happens to be in Australia, the home of Rode.

Dear Kirk. I posted my Topic "What do Australians Know About Sound" because of this very attitude displayed up here.

The "obscure publication" as you put it is an excellent trade magazine. Currently I prefer it to Mix Magazine,. Sound on Sound, Computer Music, Home Recording etc.No I don't have any connection with the people who run it. No, there are no members of my family connected with Rode either.

Is this attitude towards all things Australian wrong? Yes. Should people such as myself speak up on this when they see it? Yes.

What are you actually saying here? I don't think it's a very nice, constructive, or productive attitude. What, America rules? Is that it? Nobody outside of America or Europe has a clue? That we're a lot of incestuous nong headed con Artists? Jeez, what if we think a piece of American equipment could be better, or Shock Horror, that an Australian piece of gear is better? Are you going to round us up and stick us in the assylum? Cool :w:

Sheesh Stedel take a deep breath and give me a break. Then consider that I didn't read your post about Aussies, nor did I intend any of the judgements you attributed to my statement.

I would like to read reviews of the new Rode mics from publications that I am familiar with, and yes, though the one referenced here may be completely valid, they are in the grander scheme of things, obscure.

I've got a great mic collection with a bunch of the big names and the NTV is one of my favorites. Given that, you bet, I would like to know more about the NT-4 and NT-5s.

I have'nt read a thread on aussies here yet. I think I skipped it, but I would just like to say that JOHN WILLIAMS (if you don't know him.... YOU SHOULD! But if you don't, he's one of the all time best classical guitar players ever.) is from Australia, AND has his guitars made from trees in Australia. They sound great and he's incredible. Most of the people that I've met from Australia are the nicest people ever. I just wanted to point out those two things in case people think ausies are shady or whatever.

I replaced my Oktava MK012's with Rode Nt-5's. What I found was that the Oktava's were a little more neutral sounding. The NT-5's are a little more bitey crispy and punchy to my ears.

Overall I think it is a good mic for the money. Not one that I'll be selling soon.

Haha... don't worry mate, we're underestimated Smile I agree that regarding ANY Australian (or ANY other nations'!) publication as 'obscure' due to ignorance is a blind view Razz
