Hey posters!
You are deeply involved in a critical sequential audio post maneuver. Then there is a knock at the door, or, someone down the hall uses a paper shredder.

This makes a lot of sense, and I'm already noticing it happen on my first project in the studio I'm working from.
I'm going to post a followup question to this in a new thread because I think it deserves one. Take a look at it and drop your thoughts off.
I'll call it "How do I become a studio tyrant?" |

Rick,
nice story, i love the steel rod - although you might find an 1 1/2" piece of black iron pipe (schedule 80) more effective....
I remember back in the days where beepers could run $350-$400 - (long time ago - the stone ages - when cell phones had 20lb battery packs)
I was doing the surveying for a tight site - road, buildings and drainage layouts........ working with a theodolite and calculator, and it seemed like every 10 minutes my beeper would go off - with a 911 at the end of the office number - and the president's personal secretary would ask me some inane question from the company president.
After 4 or 5 beeps i politely explained to her that i would accept no more interuptions - as the process i was involved in required my full attention - and building on someone elses land would be a huge problem (if i made a mistake) -
well it couldn't have been 5 minutes later she beeped me......... and i very calmly walked over and dropped my company beeper into the middle of a concrete pour.
When i finally called the office the following day - she was irate because the president's questions had gone unanswered (they aparrently beeped me about every 5 minutes for the remainder of the day). I again ( maybe not quite so politely) explained to her that her lack of intelligence and inablility to follow my directions was the direct cause........ and that i would no longer respond to her beeps due to the fact that 150 cubic yards of concrete made it impossible for me to answer the beeper.
She sputtered as she told me how much the beeper cost - and i explained to her that it could be considered an annoyance fee from me - which she could pay seeing as she was the cause.
Interestingly enough - my work that day uncovered a 40' error in an "A2" property survey (which should have been within 1/8" of closing) and had i laid everything out according to the civil drawings - we would have had 2 buildings on the adjacent property owner's property.
The company accepted the additional cost of the beeper without any further ado........ and from that moment forward - they never beeped me when i said to cease...........
Thank you for bring that memory to the surface......... i just had a wonderful laugh......
:p:

Hi all,
Good story Rod it was pretty funny. I once read an Excellent self-help book on dealing with other people, it was called "Pulling your own Strings" By Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, since I read it I haven't had many problems with authority figures or co-workers who think they're authority figures.
The description on the back of the book says that he zeroes in on those people and institutions that manipulate you - and tells you how to get them off your back forever. Each chapter is based around a major principle for not being victimized, with concrete tactics for dealing from a position of strength with co-workers, clerks, relatives, lovers - and all to often, yourself.
This book really changed my outlook on life, the guy seems to know his stuff. I think reading this book would be some help in these types of situations.

Extreme, dude, I like espresso, can't you tell?
The book sounds interesting and I will find it and read it, thanks, but I gotta ask, did it advance your salary, career, or did it just take stress out of the job?
Because that would be very easy for me to do.
As far as my relationship with my wife? I'll read it just for that alone hee hee. No really she is great about a lot of my awkward traits.
Thanks again,

Rick
The book made me understand how people work. And how to get people that don't want to do stuff...to do stuff(I.E. Clerks). Salary no i'm a starving student (will except any donation of any kind i.e. gold bars) Career yes, using the techniques I managed to get honors at school seeing how i had always been a 50's - 60's kid. The book also helps you cope with stress as well, telling you what causes it, how to get rid of it, why its useless. The guy also wrote another book called "Erroneous zones" it helps to defeat the self-defeating thought built up in your concious and unconsious mind. Read both books together, Erroneous zones first. They cost about $10 each.
