Hi,
Desire to get Midi into a G4. Emagic's MT4 looks good on paper though it doesn't have the "active midi" feature of the AMT8. Anyone have experiences to share? Is it at least fast enough to realistiacally use it?
There's also the Romulus card and Keyspan makes a serial card to too. I'm going to hold off on the GPort because I have an open PCI card in the computer.
Best. |

Howdy
If I had to "do it all over", I'd get all Emagic MIDI hardware instead of the MOTU stuff I have. Why? One less layer of another manufacturer's Byzantine proprietary operating system.
I have never used the "Active MIDI" stuff in Logic. If a part doesn't seem "tight", I record it as audio and nudge it until it feels right.
I have the Stealth Serial Port in my G4. Works great, no problems. |

Howdy Nate,
Thanks for your response to the post.
The stealth port works and could be the most exonomical way.
It seems from reviews on the web that the MT4 is fast enough with those users, though I'm going to call some folks in Nashville and get another opinion.
The nice advantage of serial is that all older devices can still be used. I'm still curious about the Opcode Studio 4. (now there's a 5) I'm doing mostly single keyboard stuff and sending to at most 2 machines, so that might be a bit of extra hardware. It's those things I don't see under the hood factor that makes it attractive. How fast and steady will this thing go...
Cheers. |
