Health food??

Monday nights some of us old guys have a 'humhead poker game'...it's been on and off for years, mostly us old farts.Over the years, most of the people that play in this game have worked in just about every bar in the city at one time or another, and we all have stories from "way back when..." (as old people generally do)Needless to say, there have been casualties along the way, and those of us who've survived make no bones about making fun of some of the "well, it seemed like a good idea at the time" kinda tales.Last night a classic came up...it's probably funnier if you knew the person involved, but I'm not naming names.At any rate...the 'subject' was the 'house engineer' at one of the larger clubs in town. Fixed system, which really required daily maintenance and tuning. Which was kinda a pain in the ass, especially if you were late for call.One day our friend was not only tardy for the call time, but showed up with a raging hangover, and low blood sugar from a night of serious partying and no food. So a friend who was stage manager at the club [and relayer of this tale] looks at our other friend, the 'humhead' and says "let's go next door (there was a restaurant next door) and grab a burger after soundcheck"...to which our humhead friend replied: "nah, I don't eat red meat, it's not good for you...let's do a 'bump' and a Scotch"...like liquor and Cocaine is better for you than red meat Very Happy

For me Health Food is maketing bullshit. Living in Byron Bay OZ I live amoungst the most ardent vegetarians etc. You can pick them easily , they all look pale and wasted and are always complaining about having the flu or colds.What erks me even more is they say they don't eat red meat but will eat chicken and fish. In OZ the chicken is full of hormones and antibiotics yet the red meat is from grass fed bovines roaming untouched hills. (all the grainfed stuff is exported)A naturopath did a survey of his clients and found the all had low VitB readings and lacked various other necessary nutrition.The only totally vegetarian diet is in southern India where they eat 7+ meals per day.Give me the scotch/bourbon/burger diet anyday Very Happy

Bartender!! Whatever John is drinking, and a Jim Beam, Bud back for me...c'mon...someone else has to have a story about "bad dietary" choices...I mean, this is the RO Bar room...what would a bar room be without war stories? Very Happy

red meat actually makes you smarter. people who are vegetarians their whole life [and this is really the first cycle going through like this due to the "hippy" movement] that vegetarians brains shrink and actually become dumber over age... who wants to live a long life being stupid, gimmee a burger along with a bump shot and a cigarette, in that order.i met this one guy one time who didnt cook anything, ate only raw veggies and nuts. no offense to those with aids, but he looked like an aids patient.

Many a night, my dinner was 8 Guinness at the Brendon Behan pub in Jamaica Plain, MA. My exercise was throwing darts at a board, and the walk to pull them out. Those were the days. Now, of course, I'm much healthier. I sit in a chair 10-12 hours a day, and drink Red Bull because I'm consumed(haha)and I forget to eat. The glucose prevents me from passing out, the caffeine keeps me up, and the Niacin and Taurine provide me the energy for my strenuous activity.Mixerman

I was in Prague a few years back. This is where I first saw Red Bull. Red Bull & vodka, what a combo. Nothing better (or worse) than a drunk with way too much energy. Seems to turn off the pass out relay in the brain.

At the end of the four weeks we managed to scrape up enough to 'splurge' at a fast food fried chicken joint. At the time that seemed to be the best damn meal I ever had. 'Hey, they have mashed potatoes- this is home cookin!'. I think it was because we were starving and it followed along the lines of the Eddie Murphy bit about the ritz cracker.Bartender- Jager and a Half & Half for me...

What, no waistresses? What kind of lame bar is this anyway? Can i get a shot of your best bourbon? Sorry if i seem a little edgy, but it seems like i rarely get to eat anymore during sessions. Its always "can we do these overdubs now while the rest of the band is eating?" If i'm lucky they will have something that i can eat with one hand. I'm starting to explain that if i don't eat, the resultant drop in blood sugar will make me much stupider than i already am, which could be disastrous for everyone involved. That usually gets their attention. Speaking of attention, you can't find a waitress around here with a geiger counter (T. Waits) Hey I'm obnoxoius sometimes but I tip generously to compensate for it. Now where's that bourbon?

Years ago, I worked at a vegetarian joint on Venice (CA) beach called the Marathon Meatless Messhall. It was a typical hippie sort of joint; Bob Dylan ate there ocassionaly, etc. There was one guy who came in a asked that we burn his toast. He even sent it back one time saying "would you please burn this some more?" The last straw was when he asked for chopsticks to eat his oatmeal.Most people's dietary choices are made on the basis of superstition, ignorance, and genetic progamming. Fletcher, I recommend to you a fine bourbon called Elijah Craig. Whenever I'm dieting, I always refer to it as 100% fat free, and "I Can't Believe its not Bourbon".
