Many years ago my kung fu instructor told me, "Only a TRUE asshole cannot admit that he is an asshole." I can be as much of an asshole as the next guy, but I don't like the idea of being a TRUE asshole.
So I emailed Stephen Paul and apologized for being an asshole and shooting my mouth off before I had the facts straight. It was humbling, and I'm not very humble by nature; on the contrary. But it was the right thing to do, and I'm getting to be about that age where doing the right thing is no longer admirable, but rather, obligitory.
We all need to rise up to a higher level, and we all know it. We are in danger of confirming the worst stereotypes that musicians and music-oriented professionals are saddled with: infantile, pedantic, delusional, insensitive, self-absorbed, socio-isolated. This BBS could be a really cool place, but when I put on my ESP, I see it getting killed before it even gets started, because we all just can't calm the f*ck down and focus on professional issues in a professional manner. New members will think we're all a bunch of psychotics if this sh*t keeps up, and they will begin to ignore us, and that is the worse thing that could possibly happen: to be ignored. When you are ignored, you are dead.
It's a beautiful day, don't let it slip away... |
