Default Problem with midi and pro tools

I am running Pro Tools 6.1 with a Digi 001 rack on Win XP. It is a custom built computer and very fast, as well as using an m-audio mobile pre usb preamp for sound. For a midi controller I am using an Axiom 25.
Anyways, I dont have monitors set up so all of my recording on Pro Tools comes back into my headphones, not a big deal at all. But my problem is that when Im using a midi track, it doesn't go through my headphones but through my computer speakers. And when I bounce the tracks to disk, the midi is not in the track. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Everything works great except for that simple fact that the midi doesn't go where I want it to.
    Please help, thanks.

I'm guessing that your midi instrument is a software unit.

The sound of this software unit is comming out the SoundBlaster part of your computer.

If it can be Rewired for example ... you need to route the output towards Pro Tools via the Rewire plug.
Look for output options for the synth.

PT will now need an AUX input and the Rewire plug with the above Synth needs to set up on one of the inserts of the AUX input.
It will probably need a stereo input.

    OR
use some audio leads and connect the SoundBlaster output to a spare input of the 001

Im using the Axiom 25 which is a midi keyboard and it isn't software. I have the midi out on the keyboard to the midi in on the Digi 001 interface. The keyboard is also using the USB to my computer for power, but how can I switch to where the midi goes. Any ideas?

sorry but as far as i can see it is not a synthesiser
... and so ... any sound you do here is most likely coming from your SoundBlaster inside the computer

the Axiom 25 can send almost ALL the midi events
    and including
    GM/GM2/XG SysEx Messages
this unit doesn't have Audio Outputs and I'm pretty sure that this unit doesn't send digital audio down the USB ... ( even though there are some that can).

The MIDI port does NOT contain audio ... just midi data
    and
I'm 99% sure the USB port can be used for Midi Data in addition to the extra facilities the Axiom 25 offers,
You get 20 memory locations for on-board storage, plus free Enigma editor/librarian software to manage an unlimited number of setups via computer.
    My advice,
fire up the Reason Adapted you may have got with the PT6.0 to PT6.4 for XP
and you will have a fine selection of Soft Sythns and a Drum module to get started with.
ReWire allows the digital audio to enter the PT mixer natively and so will sound much better than from the SoundBlaster card via the analog inputs of the 001.

    otherwise,
    Ableton Live Lite 5
which was bundled with the Axiom 25
I've never used Ableton Live but I think it too can be ReWired to PT.
Live brings your acoustic, electronic and virtual instruments—as well as your digital audio recordings and MIDI sequences—
    enjoy ...

Thanks, I will try all that. I take it ReWired is a program? I will search for it, Im new to midi and don't fully understand HOW it works, so your small explanation cleared up a little for me, thanks again.

    ReWire is software
    and in a sense ... a program

It is more a LINK between two audio applications like Reason and Pro Tools

Cubase is an audio application and has some soft-synths almost inside it ... to use these synths with Protools you use VST wrapper ... ( I think - don't all jump on me if I'm wrong )

so Rewire and VSTwrapper do a similar thing

for some basic MIDI info there is a MidiBasics PDF at my site (Roland)
    and
recently there were some MIDI infos post here
