    Default mbox2 pro

    1st post here:
Jokers over at sweetwater sold me an mbox2 pro with pro-tools le and I'm having trouble with it on my pc. Not the most intuitive software I've used. I used to record with reason 4.0 for synth, drums etc. and then I used adobe audition to record vocals, mixdown and master. I think the audition interface for multitrack recording is much more intuitive, esp the wave editing. I don't like the Pro Tools method of tracking with soft-synths and really, after a month, I haven't been able to track much. I'm not used to being so unproductive and I feel there has to be a better way. Is there any advice to get me up and running? Has anyone read a really great book that explains pro-tools or should I be looking at buying a mac running Logic? I'm just tired of being frustrated and really, with the technology available, I don't think I should be. My other question besides the tutorial help would be, if I decide to go with another software, will the mbox2 pro work with any other software?

    thanks for your time

"Also it works well with other DAW and Video software such as Sonar 6x, Cubase LE, Sony SoundForge and Vegas 6.0."

Try Cubase or Nuendo if you can get your hands on a copy. There's Reaper too, which is free. There are tons of them out there and most should be compatible with your hardware. I'm not a real fan of Pro Tools myself, I like the interface, I just don't care for the sound as much so it's personal preference.

I'm another one like yourself. I only got a M-Box 2 just so I could have ProTools. Mind you, I'm not very fond of it either, so I continue to use other software's. Not wild about the front-end input of that device either. In fact, I believe it's quite flawed. In that respect, I believe that M-Audio makes better products than their parent company. Sure, they're high-end stuff works but that's for people who have invested their souls into a piece of software. False prophets I call it!

yes, after searching the web and other forums, there are quite a number of people who are having the same problem with sound output ie: they see meter lights but hear nothing. There seems to be several problems with this new box. I too have reverted back to using other apps like my favourite Adobe Audition rewired with Reason. The only problem is, I experience the same audio issues with it while using other software. AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!! I thought having a quad core would give me a kickbutt daw but really, it's just given me new friends at sweetwater tech support. I think what I need is just a keyboard workstation. That's basically what I'm trying to do on my computer anyway. It's hard to find people who will freely criticize protools but I liken it to a cult and I'm going to get out before I lose any more time and money.

I was looking at an M-box and an Edirol when I went shopping for my interface. The Edirol seemed to be about doing what I wanted and the M-box seemed to be about me spending money on Pro-Tools and doing what it wants...

Bought the Edirol and haven't looked back.

I use Cubase and Tracktion at home but I like ProTools. I like the routing and the fact that you can do real time mixdowns. Something I can't do with Cubase and haven't figured out if I can do with Tracktion yet. I think it's a matter of familiarity. I don't find ProTools confusing at all. Mind you, I would rather do midi in any other software but for tracking and mixing audio, I like ProTools.

Incidentally, search Youtube for vids on ProTools tips.
