Default What to get for a recording set up

i am looking to create a small home studio by buying something like a Boss BR-900CD Digital Recording Studio, nothing too fancy and expensive. However i noticed it only features 2 simultanious recording tracks.

I was wonding if it is wise and still sound efficient to also buy a 10-track mixer and use it to plug say some drum mics or whatever into that and then go from the mixer into the BR-900.

    thanks

I would get a M-box. I think there under 400 US. You would get the 2 focustrite pre's and way better software. also a spdif and digtal connections. 2 cond overheads capture alot of drums believe it or not. great start for min$$ IMHO.

since you can only recordin two tracks at a time it might be a good idea to get a small mixer if you want a little control over level and panning for your drums. However the submix won't allow you to record separate the tracks on the recorder. Also consider that if your recording a band with more than one musicians you may have to record some "scratch tracks" before you record the drum so you can capture the drums in stereo and get everybody lined up. If it's just you recording by yourself it probably won't be a huge limitation for you to only have 2 inputs. It's when you get additional folks in on the recording that 2 inputs becomes a hassle.
    Good luck!
