    Default crunchy acoustic gtr

while listening to some radio songs that have acoustic gtr's in them with typical strummed chords i noticed the sound/tone was very crunchy and almost half muted of sorts(almost like an unplugged electric being strummed) and well found it very pleasing. in contrast MY acoustic gtr sounds very full and chimey like you would expect an acoustic to sound.
sorry if my terminology is vague and politically incorrect...

is this sound acheived from a specific mic technique, eq treatment, room, or just a specific instrument(hollowbody electric, etc.) or even a combination of all these things?

these tones were from songs like Hinder-better than me and Stonesour-looking through the glass .

    thanks

Sounds like you might be talking about heavy compression on the acoustic. I know that Stonesour song. Alot of compression, kill all the low-end frequencies, something like that maybe? Maybe a little tube amp distortion? Andy

thanks for the replies. i compressed heavily and eq'ed it but somthing is still missing(depth and clarity). working on micing it different ways with a few condensers. wondering if m/s micing will bring out some fullness to it. any mic suggestions...?

At this point if you think its almost there, might be worth considering the instrument. Is the guitar up to snuff? That last little bit missing is usually a function of cheaper instruments and improvised recording environment (i.e. bedroom, etc). Andy
