Default Vintage guitars and amps, need advice for recording

I'm not a professional in the music world, but I have been collecting guitars and amps for about 30 yrs. I have a 002LE rack and I'm looking for some advice on how to record guitar amps and what do you think the most reasonable Mic Preamp $2k or below would work best. I appreciate all of your advice

    Default

at this stage the mic-pres in the 002 are probably enough

you have the guitars and amps
    so
    a Shure SM57
    (an industry standard dynamic mic)
and something like a RODE NT1
    (reletively cheap large condenser mic)

this will give you enough gear to try many of the mic techniques favoured for electric guitar

search the forums here for ideas
it has all been discussed many times
