    Jeemy;
    I was being sincere. I retuned last night applying what you said earlier in the thread and it's much better now, tuning-wise. I'm going to make that my standard tuning procedure from now on.

    I was skeptical, because I was always taught "USE A TUNER". Drilled into my head since childhood. But after you guys mentioned "sweetened tunings" I did some Googling on the subject and then went on a tuner hunt and almost spent $150 on a Peterson. Then Jeemy outlined the procedure and saved me some money!

    So, Jeemy, thanks again!

    I am a huge fan of the Peterson V-SAM. I do teach the use of tuners to students primarily for learning where he partials on a brass instrument are and then quality tone production via the strobe. If the embouchure and breath are pure each band on the strobe can be stopped. I have a Conn Strobotuner with 12 wheels for that purpose. The metronome and drone features are excellent on the VSAM as well. For guitars, Peterson describes sweetened tunings and how to custom program your own temperaments. A non strobe tuner is just useless in my not so honest opinion. Of course the ultimate goal is to develop the ear but often in a live band situation being able to plug into the tuner and reset your custom tuning in a thrice is useful.

    The Strobosoft program is available on ipod touch/iphone but you lose the oter benefits of the VSAM.

    I was on studio today, and got idea, that bass plays biggest role in feeling of tuned track, because it is base of all guitar, sample and vocal sound, it gives to ears a fundamental tone with wich other sounds are compared by brain.

    The danger if one is not careful is that psycho-acoustically, the human ear wants to stretch bass notes too low and high frequencies too high.
