a sequence in a mix

i used to create a mix first bringing the drums and the bass, then i put the voice(s) and only then complete with guitars and other stuff, what do you guys think about that

I usually get a click track down (usually just simple looping drum beat and a guitar for the chord progression and sequence), then slowly record the parts one by one, ending with the vocals.

However many people will agree that having the entire band play together and recording everything in one shot can give a "tighter", livelier feel. Only in my case, that's just not possible, because I'm a one man show. Owell.

If you're asking about post-recording mixing, probably first kick and snare, then bass, then other drums, then rhythm, then lead vocals, then background instruments, then background vocals, in that rough order. I find it easiest to get good volume balance that way. - the most important parts go in first, and the lesser parts are brought up behind one by one so that something can be done if they mask the leads.
