Old geezer here again.... Just joined the group to impart my age-old recording wisdom on people to the point of tears of boredom...

Not to stir the pot too much, but like a lot of musicians I am also a wordie.. Is the proper term "micing"? To me that looks like a rodent. I thought the terms were "microphone", or "mic" for short, but when you add the "ing" the accepted spelling is "miking". Has that changed since I picked up the recording bug for the 2nd time?

As long as people understand what your talking about, it really doesn't matter. It is an improper word that is being used as verb in either case.

I always thought that "mic" can be used as a verb.

    "I will mic the kit."

Actually you 'place the mic'....mic is always a noun at this point.Micing/miking the set, would be a shortened and certainly slang terminology for 'placing the microphones on the set'...

And like Gaff...er?!!Be as proper as you wanna be...

'Miking' sounds like hunting a guy named 'Mike' for sport.

"RELEASE THE HOUNDS AND LET THE MIKING COMMENCE!!"

    (bugles sound... horses gallop)

hee hee hee ... that's funny greg.

I have always thought that Mike was someone I knew and that he actually prefered to be called Michael ... but acording to Yons link I must be wrong (good one Yon).

I think the confusion stems from the word microphone being spelled with a "k" in German, mikrophon ... But seeing that I speak English, I spell it microphone.. and mic and micing..
