mastering question

ok first id like to say I知 not looking for full 100 percent mastering but rather acceptable project mastering to use for demo work/song writing I知 really getting irritated at the inconsistency and overly compressed audio of today id like my levels as hot as they were in the early 90s where the mastering volume "by volume here I mean actually loudness as aposed to apparent loudness" was cut off so the older cd players wouldn稚 distort at highest volume somewhere in the middle of the my cd is louder then yours war that I so hate so I知 thinking of buying the Waves mastering bundle for my Pro Tools rig that should work pretty well for project mastering vs. an all in one unit like a finalizer but my question lies in monitoring I know I cant use my studio monitors and I need decent full range speakers so the question lies here would standard high fidelity loud speakers work something like audiophile stereo speakers? or anything you could recommend for around 1500 a pair? I知 taking used here not new thanks

I would say that the waves bundle can do some fine work if used correctly. Level is in your hands, not the equipments so that's up to you.

as far as speakers go, use your ears and your common sense to make this decision. How well do you want to hear? that's how much you've got to spend. quality costs money, I didn't make those rules. 1'st, an amp to drive full range speakers with any kind of accuracy and power needed is going to start at around $1000 used, At least that's what i've found. Maybe you kind find some decent satalite's used for around $1500 but then you're going to need a sub or 2. So that brings you up to $3000 for a used eh eh setup. Now this might work for you, I don't know. It depends on whether you can hear the difference. Don't take this the wrong way. It takes time to train your ears to hear some things about monitors. It did for me. The first time I heard my dad's M&K speakers he brought home, I thought there couldn't be anything better sounding. 20 years later I have a very different opinion.

So YOU have to go listen to monitors and find the ones you can live with in your price range. Once you've done that, then you can begin the journey of finding them used and in decent condition.
