Hey guys it's been a while since I've been around here, been real busy. I'm looking for recommendations for a cam-corder I want to give my daughter. I know with tape-based units you can dub off to a home VCR then re-use the tape. The digital ones that are out there now, can they be played in a consumer DVD player? I'm looking to spend around $200.00. Any recomentations ?

AFAIK if you want something with good quality output and decent support, this is as close as you will get to $200.

Using that camera you can record to cheap, high quality mini-dv tapes (re-recordable to some extent) and then just put the video on your computer via a cheap firewire cable. It even comes with software and USB cable for uploading still pictures. Anyhow, cheers! 8-)
