Thread: Firewire to AES/EBU

I don't know any 2 channel firewire interfaces that handle AES/EBU. The RME Fireface does AES/EBU from the S/PDif jacks and a GUI switch. You would need a converter for XLR to phono but the diagram is in the manual. The only other 1394 interface off the top of my head is the Onyx 1200F.

I got a good suggestion from Dave-G at PSW and so I went the optical route with the Toslink output fed into a Toslink to AES/EBU converter and it works well. I completely forgot that almost all Macs now have a digital optical output on them in the headphone jack. For what we are doing this works GREAT!

I'm surprised you got the FW to sync at all!

Only good sync with FCP I had was with mini trs audio out and picture on graphics card.

Or....I set up another with a BlackMagic Multibridge that had AES out on DB25, and took that to a Rosetta 800 to break out to analog.

I know you said you didn't want to spent a lot....I've never tried the optical.
If it works, go for it.

Had many problems with sync in FCsP (Final Cut semi-Pro), Would sync up on clap slate, but then while running picture it would be off on same take!!

Really needs to be there without having to incorporate 3rd party hardware.

We already have one of these for both our PCs but we are now getting into FCP and we are currently running it on an IMAC. Someone needs to make a good firewire audio to AES/EBU converter for under $500 with very low latency but I guess that is not a part of the game plan for most companies today.
