another noob question here i was just listening to a THX home theather test disc, and there was some small 2 minute bass music tracks. I wanna know what do they use to set the octaves of the bass sine Waves, u know the low duuuunnnnnnnng sound, lol. anyway any insights into this. Like those IASCA demo c.d.'s

Test CDs can be made using any brand of signal generator. The link I gave you is to just one of them. If this is not what you're asking, please restate your question more clearly.

Re: another noob question here ok, what i meant was, what equipment do producers for instance "2 live crew" and the likes of "bass mekanik" or "bass 305", you know those bass cd's for car stereo's that pump out super low bass at different octaves. I juss curious what equipment they use to sync the low tr-808 type bass sound and what equipment they use to produce the low tr-808 type sound at different octaves????.

I have no idea because I've never heard those CDs. But in general, many modern music productions rely heavily on synthesizers. Often these are software synths that run in a computer. That is entirely different from creating sine wave test tones with a signal generator.

Most of the low sounds in rap and hip-hop are just sine waves, or so close as to make no difference. The 808 kick sound is just a sine wave with a short decay. Make it longer or shorter as desired with a sampler. Many of the rap and hip-hop beat makers use an Akai MPC sampler, either the 2000 or the 3000. The (original) 3000 is preferred because of the grungy outputs.

When I need sub bass sounds for the bass part, if it is MIDI I use a simple wave shape on a separate track an octave below the actual bass part. It usually doesn't have to be loud in the mix. For "real" bass tracks an octaver is often used (a la in Peter Gabriels "Sledgehammer").
