I am working on hip hop beat for a couple days now i have been trying to base my drums around kanye west devil in a new dress for example he has this drum break down with the tom toms and crashes i would like to replicate it. if u guys have any pointers about how to place my drums on wat bpm like where my snares, kicks, high-low toms, and crashes would, go i would really appreciate that

Kanye West- Devil In A New Dress
KANYE WEST - DEVIL IN A NEW DRESS FEAT. RICK ROSS (NEW 2010) - YouTube 0:20-0:25 is where he does the drum break down and he does it every 8 bars

My best advise is loop the 8th bar and experiment with each element of it until you get close. or you can load the track (instrumental if possible) into your DAW and use your eyes and ears to time the hits on a free midi track. Or you could slow the beat down so that you can actually hear each hit. Also concentrate on hearing one element at a time. Sometimes I'll randomize the hits in the break until I hear something I like. Listen to each element and concentrate on one element at a time instead of the whole break. Hope that helps some.
