Indaba Music Contests Last October I found this site while looking for places hosting mixing contests. I wanted idea's on how we could do it here. After digging around and schooling myself , I signed up for the FREE 3 key pass. I'm now hooked and upgraded to a Platinum member. I love this place.
Why?
I've discovered a fantastic mixing contest community. A great model of what we could be here or definitely a place to make a second home.
As a member I can download 2116 kbps stems, load them into my DAW and catch up to whats going on with very well produced (pre Remix)tracks.
16 (bits) X 44100 (fs) X 2 (channels) = 1411 kbps
24 (bits) X 44100 (fs) X 2 (channels) = 2116 kbps
32 (bits) X 44100 (fs) X 2 (channels) = 2822 kbps
Looking around the site I started discovering more. I can use this site to help build my online business in various ways.
- I'm gaining experience remixing during down time,
- I can collaborate with other people of all sorts of styles, globally,
- I can upload and sell my music at a place that helps me back.This is a good thing!
- And as a bonus, if I want to get involved and enter contests, I can with ease.
The prizes are anything from wining nice chunks of money to industry recognition. Pretty cool
More in depth mixing contests would be very cool. I've spoken with them and they are listening.

Very cool, I'm not much into remixing compared to trying to create my own completely original songs, but I'm still waiting on your competition to have a shot at those Royers ;) But then again, I have taken pop songs (kesha, avril) and added new drums, bass, and guitar to them. Does that count as a remix? I've love to hear what the true definition of remix is. All I know that adding stuff to those pop songs was an absolutely blast. And IMO they sounded better!

Pop, Rock, Dance whatever. Keeping the lyrics, original singer and bed tracks, however changing it around, adding your own sounds( like you did with the drums), removing or including a musical breakout, solo's etc in addition to a completely different grove or tempo, to any song would be considered a remix to me.
Example: If I had a song produced for the country market and my team wanted to reach the ROCK or Dance crowd I would find people proficient in remixes. Thus, hold a contest and pick the ones I liked best. Welcome to Indaba Music.
Its been a really busy winter for me. Now that I have done some research and found new opportunities, I'm preparing a mix contest next. Stay tuned.
In the mean time, seriously check out ALL the opportunities over there, its worth learning about, plus! its going to give you an upper edge.
I'll definitely check it out. I'd love to post my version of Avril's 'what the hell'... it's very close to the original but sounds much more like classic avril with the instruments. I know it would have had a lot of youtube views... I mashed up a bunch of videos of hers as well that worked really well. I'm kind of mad I deleted it. But youtube's copyright thing still caught on, so I never made anything of it. I still have the mp3 though, I'd like you guys to hear it.
