Here is the press release on the M/S Master :
    ________________________________________________

    SPL introduces the M/S Master

Contributing to the ongoing debate about M/S Mastering, SPL introduces a new powerful analog tool that can manage M/S signal separation and integrate external processors seamlessly – The M/S Master. World Premiere at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt.

The M/S Master allows a fully adjustable separation of stereo L/R signals (X/Y) into middle/side signals (M/S). M/S separation and positioning, as well as the stereo image, are defined by the Balance and Level knobs, while a switchable frequency filter for the Side signal controls the lower frequencies and the room ambience.

One of the main features of the M/S Master is that it can integrate external processors via switchable inserts. Thus, outboard gear can be easily integrated into the X/Y or M/S mix with a single button and without the need of any cabling. These processing possibilities make the M/S Master an essential tool in mastering environments.

The M/S Master will be displayed at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt from the 24th to the 27th of March, 2010. You can find the SPL stand (B82) in Hall 5.1.

    M/S Mastering
The use of a middle (M) and a side (S) signal instead of the usual L/R (X/Y) signal results in a much more selective and musical processing. High-energy Middle signals (vocals, snare, bass guitars, etc.) can be easily separated from Side signals (guitars, keyboards, cymbals, etc.). Thus, a compressor can be used to process one element instead of the whole mix. The same applies to any kind of processing, making the M/S matrix an indispensable element in the mastering stage.

The SUPRA op-amps are the foundation of SPL's stereo and multichannel Mastering Series, which has set new benchmarks in audio signal processing, outperforming any analog or digital audio format existing to date.

In 2008 SPL formed a new team of software developers and accomplished a breakthrough in developing digital products. Finally, the high-quality standards SPL stands for could be translated into the digital domain. SPL's ANALOG CODE® plug-ins have ever since provided software processors that faithfully emulate their analog counterparts thanks to the most advanced component modeling techniques. [/FONT]

I'd use it to connect my Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor and my Great River Mastering EQ directly to my API 1608 in MS-mode. I'd skip that patchbay forever, I think! That would be soooooooooooooooooo cool!

Default Why would I want it?

Definitely time to get rid of the patch bay. Playing with the stereo image is another huge plus and useful tool for an artistic approach to unique sounding audio. Filter is a fine addition that will have many uses on the mix. And being a user of SPL transient designer. I have alot of faith that this would be a great addition to my studio. Good job SPL!

Activation emails have alway's worked perfectly unless you have us blocked. What happened there?

Sorry for your troubles with the blog. You must have entered a long one and I hope it wasn't lost. There was a limit set ( that was very large in the first setting) however, to avoid this happening again, I have removed the limits. You should be good to go.

Let me know how you make out now.

Default Why I should win :)

I would LOVE to win this module, not just to have it sit in my studio to collect dust!!! I know it would help make my sound, sound much better, In this economy it's hard to spend hard earned money on equipment, It would definitely be put to use here with no hesitation from me or any of the engineers here. Plus I would Rep RECORDING.ORG FOREVER!!! -GO RECORD Everyone!
