Thread: Where to record?

What's your largest room?
That one.

Nah the closet is 6'X6' (already mentioned) but the room is about 15'X15' with carpet floor, sheetrock walls, and 2 windows

Code was talking about the (12'X6') ...you might want to keep up....it's the only way anyone can get any type of resolution in these types of things.


Me personally, for a guy like you with Micheal Jackson type experience...use the 15' X 15'.

so would the 15'X15' would be the best for vocals? So just quit recording in the 6'X6' closet altogether?

First, let me say, you're a credit to your generation! You type/speak intelligibly and you ask legitimate, topical questions. Thank you!

Second, be cautious of rooms where the dimensions in any of the 2 directions are identical. in a 15x15x8 room, you're going to have some issues with standing Waves, cancellation and other wonderful phasing artifacts. Having clutter in the room will help this but may create other problems of its own.

If you do record in a square room, make sure you don't set up in the middle of the room or you're asking for sound troubles. Also, if possible, place some sound deadening devices (blankets over mic stands) behind the mic to help at least avoid a lot of standing waves in the frequency range that most affects the voice.

Put up some samples of stuff and we'll try to help where we can.
