Mid/high absorber vs. 1" Auralex?

Okay, with 4 traps up and 8 under construction, I may soon be faced with the daunting task of constructing 24 mid/high absorbers, when I'd much rather get down to the business of making my music.

On the other hand, I have stacks of 1" Auralex wedge foam in the garage... would that be as effective as Ethan's mid/high absorbers if I alternated 2x6 sections of it with the traps?

Inch for inch, foam is about half as effective at low frequencies as 703. So if you have a bunch of foam, double it up to two inches and you'll be close. Also leave a 1-2 inch gap behind the foam, the same as recommended when using 703.

What he said- I'd hang two pieces, one in front of the other, with the first one a couple inches off the wall and the second an inch or so off that, or just touching. Flat on the wall has a really good chance of giving you a boingy, dead-topped room.

I even have some 4" Auralex that is hanging in loops 6" off the ceiling.
