    Default MiniTraps as a gobo

Just a report: I needed to make a acoustic guitar recording last weekend, and I've found that the spare bedroom has some nasty resonances that tend to make certain low notes boom quite noticeably on recordings made in that room. But I just got a few Mini Traps from Ethan, targetted for a new room. Thinking about some of the free-standing panel products I've been reading about lately (FreePort, etc), I decided to try to use the Mini Traps to create a little local space that sounded better. I just stood them on end, in a V shape, and tied them together with some string for a little stability. I played toward them, with the mics between me and the panels. Mics were pretty close to the guitar, the panels maybe 2 feet away.

No way to quantify how well this worked, but the recording came out reasonably well, with no obvious signs of the resonance issues I'd had before. I think until I get my new room put together, this may be a good way to go.

    Doug,

Yes, MiniTraps do a fine job creating an enclosed space that avoids the acoustic problems in the rest of the room. Though I wouldn't characterize them as gobos because they don't have as much mass as a well designed gobo made of heavy wood or MDF.

    Gil,

As Doug said [thanks, Doug] Prices and much more are on my company's site.

Also, I have private messages disabled here and in all the other forums I visit. It's a lot easier for me to handle private correspondance through my personal and business email accounts.
