If there's any confusion about the 705-FRK, lets assume at 125 hz.
What is the performance difference between making the panel traps and just hanging 2x4 pieces of 2 inch 703 and 705-FRK. Cuz I can prolly hang 3 or more pieces of 703/705-FRK for the cost of one panel trap. How many of each equal a panel or mini trap?
example............
(3) 2" 703 == 1 panel trap
(4) 2" 703-FRK == 1 mini trap
(2) 2" 705 == 1 panel trap
(5) 2" 705-FRK == 1 mini trap
Happy new year.

The problem is there's no way to know without taking the rigid fiberglass to an acoustics lab and measuring it while it's hanging in the air.

What would you estimate given your experience.
Thanks,

I'm sorry but I can't estimate. The one time I tried 703 panels the results were good. Not as good as MiniTraps, assessing by ear, but they definitely helped at low frequencies.
More to the point, if that's all you can afford, just go ahead and do it. You'll surely be far better off than you are now!

Thanks Ethan. I really appreciate all of your time. It sucks being poor. :-) You gotta come up with a bass trap that you license and it expires every year!
hehe,
John
I've talked to several studio owners that built their own traps out of, well, 703 and 1x6's...
That's the direction I'm heading. Believe me, if I could afford the convenience of Ethan's pre-builts, I'd do it - I'm not a frickin' carpenter!

Is wood required to suspend them? I'm wondering if I can surround them with an ultra thing wire frame or something really totally minimal. I'm also wondering about the best way to bond 2 for a 4" fiberboard. Maybe a bead of Liquid Nail around the perimiter?
Thanks,
John
