Default building own rack / rack rails?

im starting construction on my equipment racks for my studio. they will be fairly basic "rectangle" design, painted 3/4" mdf.

im looking to see if anyone knows a place online that sells rack rails for a cheap price.

so far the best ive got for 18 space, is $26.95 from markertek.

any leads would be appreciated, thanks!

Although I can't help with a supplier ( being a UK dude ), I Must say that seems very expensive.

When I made my racks a few years ago, I bought a bunch of aluminium rack strips. it came in 6 foot lengths, and even allowing for inflation it would only be about 15 shekels a length.

Aluminium, of course, is also much easier to work with than steel.

    Fevers,

Go here, it's where I get all of my rack components, speaker corners, etc.

These guys have an outlet in Toronto but I also think they have one in Buffalo. There's a pre-tapped piece of rail (42 spaces) for $17.21 USD. You'll need to cut it, but that should be easily done at any auto spring shop or anyone who has a metal-cutting saw. I've used my home shop electric mitre saw with a metal-cutting blade, but I prefer to do it where I don't risk setting the shop on fire!

The only thing you have to pay attention to is where you cut these pieces of rail. They are in a pattern that has to be followed and made the same for both rail sides. Otherwise the holes don't match up.

Also, I'm not sure if you already knew this or not but don't make your 19" rack exactly 19" wide. Make it 19 1/8", otherwise some components will be a tight fit.

If you use wood, you won't have to worry about grounding issues.

Or here's a link. I don't know if you will have to set up an account, but here you go:

or search google for middle atlantic stuff.

Go here. I think these guys are pretty damn good:

The site is a bit annoying but they've got a ton of stuff you didn't even know you needed.
