    Default Polyester Fiber

Is anybody familiar with this material, Polyester Fiber. Here is the link to this one particular product made with it, sorry it's all in Korean. http://artboard.co.kr/?source=Overtu...OVMTC=standard

They claim that it's low freq. absortion is somewhere between polyurethine foam and fiber glass. It comes in densities from 1.5 lbs/cu ft ~ 4.5 lbs/cu ft. Thickness from 1" ~ 2". I was thinking about stacking 2 2" and putting it across the corners. These are suppose to be 100% safe@? whatever that means.
    Thanks!

There's absorbtion coefficients for a different manufacturer's polyester available here
    http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm
Admitidly that's a different manufacturuer (Johns Mansville USA and Autex New Zealand), so you can't use those numbers, but all you asked was if anyone had ever heard of polyester as an absorber.

I used about 2lbs of poly fill in a 4x12 guitar cab of mine, tightened up the sound quite a bit, Less gonk more chunk.
Nothing scientific about that install though.

    Just general,

Any open cell material that is designed for thermal insulation must work for acoustic absorption too.

For thermal insulation one insulates with the air contained between the fibers.
If there is not enough resistance on this air, it's starts convecting (rise and come down = circling) which destroyes the thermal quality of the product.

This same resistance (friction) is used for acoustic absorption.

Of course density can influence the quality.
If a fibrous material should not absorp sound it should be a poor thermal isolator too.
