where to buy mineral wool? what kind?

ok so what is mineral wool used for in acoustics exactly...any info would beg reat.

Also, i'm sure this has been discussed a million times before btu the search function isnt working for me.


please help! i'm trying to treat a control room size 11.4x12.2x7.4(feet.inches).

I just finished my search for fiberglass and mineral wool. I finalyl found some... I just started calling a bunch of insulation and construction places in the phone book. Finally found one that had 50 sheets of fibrex fbx 1260. Check out bobgolds.com

Not easy to help if we don't know where in the world you are!!

Mineral wool should be very easy to find, it is used by all construction firms to insulate houses, and although they do differentiate between acoustic and standard, all that is is quality of construction - much the same as the difference between FMR and Neve, this translates to quality brands at a higher price price being better for acoustics.

Density is expressed in different ways for different countries too. Your use of the word mineral wool implies Britain, its called mineral wool or rockwool here, and Knaupf are a good brand. RWA40 referring to 40kg/m3 is the minimum density for trapping, and RWA60 for corners or important traps.

Your control room is almost bang on the same size as mine and Steve (knightfly) was already kind enough to do a fantastic job of helping me treat it, the plans are all on this forum and although the search is occasionally broken, it works most of the time, so search my posts and look at one of the first 5 or so, aptly named.

And as for 'what is mineral wool used for in acoustics' - absorbing sound. For a more complete answer, just read every post in the Acoustics Forum, then read them again. Its the most difficult part of this job to understand I think.
