Default How to place monitor stands to reduce sound leakage

Hi, I have read through lots of the threads but cannot find an answer to my specific question. I have a home studio on the top floor of my house. The bass booms throughout most of the house. In general I am fine with that since only we live there. We do not want to do any major construction changes, but were wondering what we could do to minimise this just a little bit. From the bottom up here is what is under the monitors:

    Wood Floorboards
    Carpet
    Sand filled monitor stand
    Monitor.

It seems that the monitors are in too close contact with the wood floor (under the carpet).

Should I be using some pins on the bottom of the monitor stands, or should I be using some rubber mats?

Inside the room, wwe are fine, we have created a pretty good monitoring environment with a combination of foam and fiberglass sound dampening panels.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

You may want to try foam, you can just go to wal mart and get foam, you dont need the 35 dollar stuff the 5 dollar works just fine and you get a lot of it, also try cement blocks that have the holes in them. A buddy of mine tried it and got great results, you just need to get the monitors off the reflective surfaces, if that doesnt work then you may have some bad room modes.

Hi, I live in London so don't know what foam you are talking about. Is it hard foam like the white boards used for insulating attics or is it more like soft foam like the one used for apholstry or cushions?

there are commercial products available to dampen the monitor stands, or dampen the speakers from the stands. I have found that hollow chamber type stands act as resonators somewhat. Layers of rubber mats under the stands will help alot. I have multiple layers of cork sheets on top of my hollow air tight stands and rubber under the stands as well
    good luck
