Default Guilty Pleasures & The Great Unknowns...

I took the night off last evening. I played with the kids until bedtime and then instead of rushing down to the studio to work I decided to do some listening for my own pleasure. I made a pail of coffee (I have this HUGE coffee mug) and grabbed some cookies, went down to the studio, turned it up loud and plugged in an old favorite, Nektar's "Remember The Future." I lost myself for about 45 minutes.

Back in '73 a friend had two tickets and invited me to see them at a small theatre in Port Chester, NY. I was blown away! The next day I went out and bought two albums and eventually got almost everything they recorded. Before they came on there was a "slide show" with music which was also fantastic. The music was by Larry Fast. I also bought his album that next day and have been a fan ever since.

I also was really into Focus (remember Hocus Pocus?). My favorite album side by them is/was "Hamburger Concerto."

How about Strawbs? My two favorite albums by them are "Grave New World" and "Hero and Heroine."

    Other faves:

    The Dead Kennedys
    Klaus Nomi
PL Courage (a local band that should have made it)
    Martha and the Muffins
    Triumvirat
    Reben
Amee Mann (not that unknown but highly under rated)
Cheap Trick (the kings of power pop)
    The Monkees
    Seals and Crofts

I could go on but my session is here.

    Please add to the list.

    :p:
    Peace to all,

I do alot of travel, and use the "down time" to keep listening to great stuff. Here are some of my "unknown" faves:

    Dada (puzzle)
Drew Youngs Trio (tres con migo)

    and of course:

    Myself (not yet in release)

My current guilty pleasure is Outkast. I absolutely love the video for "Hey Ya!", but I feel compelled to change the channel whenever someone else walks into the room.

    Hey Nikko,
Your comments are funny. I feel that way all the time. If it's musically a good production, then it's a good production, cheesy looking or not. I've had the same issues with 50 Cent, Remi Shand, Christina Agulerra etc!! At the end of the day, if they have more success with their music then mine, I feel like I have to respect, whether I think I'm cooler then them or not!
