    Hello all,

I am trying to setup a 001 for mobile recording. I wonder if anyone here could recommend any models for laptop/firewire drive/lunchbox computer that has been proven to work with the 001. Is a firewire drive a necessity or a luxury?
I am planning to record primarily stereo live tracks but if possible also live multitrack recording using another hardware interface.

Also we are contemplating whether to buy 001 or 001 factory. Are the bundled RTAS plugins good enough to be worth the extra money?

    Thanks everyone!

  2. Graceland the key is you need to host the digi card. The only way to do this, that I'm aware of, is with a Magma chasis that connects through the PCMCIA cardbus. I run one of these with a G4 Titanium and it's great. The magma can also have drives in it, depending on the model.

Check out the new Mbox from Digidesign on their website. USB solution.

Thanks fellas, I am aware of both the Magma option and the Mbox, but I am more worried about the capabilities of the host system, i.e. the laptop / lunchbox in question. I know the Titanium can do it (but for that price...), and I know RME has posted some tests on laptops for audio. But does anyone here have any actual experiences with Win9x/2k/XP laptops that are capable of multitrack recording?

    Regards
