ACPI vs NFG4Audio?

Hey, Opus - Just read a blurb somewhere that claimed that enabling ACPI on XP causes it to share IRQ between audio and video. Don't remember if that was only for onboard audio, sounds kinda wierd anyway - I know you were playing with ACPI the last I heard, any meat to this? Is ACPI a no-no for XP, or has it been working for you? Hopefully it's OK, cause I think ACPI has to be enabled to take advantage of the 8 extra IRQ's, right?

I don't really wanna know all this geek crap, just makin' conversation...:=) Steve

    Hey Steve
Well, I think what you read might not be true since I can get the video and other devices to play nicely by getting them on their own IRQ's in ACPI mode without a problem...I'm sure that they are referring to the onboard as there's no general audio card slot that us audiophiles use in the PCI world!
ACPI is nice, I like it a lot. Smooth performance and yes, the 8 extra IRQ's.....BUT, here's the catch...I personally don't think they are the 8 extra you think they are....try getting 3 or 4 to be used....even if you have the serial ports disabled!!!! I've gotten 5 to show up but never 3 or 4....up to 22 I think I've seen...maybe 23, can't remember right now as I just kind of woke up...Nice excuse eh?! lol
    Opus :D

Yeah, kinda figgered they were talkin' about onboard, like WFC? Not me... - That excuse works for me, along with "haven't been to bed yet", "The dog ate my ram", "Toilet won't flush so I can't get the $*^t outa my head", "Got a bone in my finger", "Officer, I COULDN'T have been going 130, I was still in 3rd gear and this car only goes 110 in 3rd", "Fer a fat girl you sure don't sweat much", "Some of my best friends are computer techs", etc...

On the IRQ thing, I never got the impression the ACPI thing was gonna fix the lower IRQ's, just add 8 on top. Think it said 16 thru 23, which would just be 8 more above the 0-15 we (sorta) have now. Anyhoozitz, thanx for the quick-back - pretty much confirms what I thought... Steve
