Hi I have an apogee duet 2 , using garageband on macbook. Whenever I run my guitar through xlr or instrument input I have a very loud hum that does not go away unless i put my hand on bare foot on the apogee. Its becoming annoying playing guitar with my foot on the thing any advice on how to sort this out?

Is that a bus powered interface?

its a USB interface, it didn't hum at my mates house . He always puts his guitar through a DI Box so that he can use the interfaces preamps on guitar. Would a DI box help with grounding issues or was something else preventing a hum in that situation.

My first thought is that this must be a problem with the wiring in your guitar. However, I assume you do not get the hum if you plug the guitar into a standard guitar amplifier instead of into the Apogee interface, so we have to look at a grounding problem in the Duet - Macbook combination.

Does the hum vary if you and your guitar move around the room? Is there a difference in hum between running the Macbook on battery and running it connected via its power supply to the mains? Does it do the same in other rooms when plugged into a different mains socket?

Your second post has just popped up in which you mention that it did not hum at your mate's house. Was this the full combination of guitar, Duet and Macbook?
